Symptoms and effects of unchanged oil
Engine oil is the most important lubricant for your vehicle. It reduces friction between engine parts, cools them, and keeps them clean. Oil also acts as a sealant and helps prevent leaks from gaskets and seals.
What happens if you don’t change your oil?
If you don’t change the oil in your car regularly, the dirty oil will circulate through the engine and cause excessive wear and tear. Because it doesn’t lubricate properly, the moving parts of the engine will grind against each other, which over time causes damage that can be extremely costly to repair. You may also notice that your car runs less efficiently than it used to and your fuel consumption will increase.
You might have heard people saying that modern cars don’t need an oil change any more. This is not true! Engines today are made from more durable material than older engines, but they still need regular oil changes to ensure that they keep running smoothly. Some manufacturers suggest increasing the interval between oil changes to as far apart as 10,000 miles. Always check your owner’s manual before making decisions about how often to change your oil.

Engine oil should be changed every 10,000 miles or once a year. The first oil change after the engine is new should be at 500 miles.
Make sure you use the correct weight of oil. Check your owner’s manual to determine which weight of oil is recommended.
Some engines can go as long as 30,000 miles between oil changes, depending on the type of oil and how many miles you drive per day.

If you’ll have the service done by a shop, you can usually either buy the parts yourself or let the shop buy them. The shop will probably mark up the price of the parts, so if you want to save money, you’ll need to purchase your own.
If you buy the parts yourself, be sure that they are correct for your vehicle and model year, and make sure you understand any return policy. If the part isn’t right, you may pay more than once for labor if it has to be installed twice.
If you have a particularly complicated job ahead of you — say an engine rebuild — it might be best to purchase a service manual for your vehicle. It will include step-by-step instructions as well as detailed diagrams and photos.
Be prepared that mechanics might question you whether your car repair products are really suitable for the engine. Some dealerships often use phrases such as “we only can use our official products” in order to not lose their warranties, but you can confidently say yes! Otherwise MyCar.Repair would never sell them to me.
Add LIQUI MOLY Oil Sludge Flush to the engine oil at running temperature before changing the oil.
Allow the engine to idle for approx. 10 minutes and then run it with full throttle for a further 2-3 minutes, before changing the oil and filter.Â
Always clean the engine with LIQUI MOLY Oil Sludge Flush after flushing out the engine to further enhance fresh oil penetration. Additionally, if your car is not serviced regularly, or it is an old car (more than 3 years) or you have used poor quality oils and filters.
1. You will need a large drain pan, at least 4 quarts of oil, an oil filter wrench, an oil filter and a wrench.
2. Jack up the car and put jack stands under it so that it will not fall when you work under it.
3. The oil filter is located underneath the car to the right of center. It has a black cap on it with a hex head in the center of it that can be turned with a socket or wrench.
4. Place the drain pan under the oil filter to catch any spilled oil and remove the oil fill cap located on top of the engine by turning it counter clockwise and pulling it off.
5. To remove the oil filter use a socket or wrench to turn it counter clockwise (lefty loosy) until it stops moving then pull it off with your hand and dump any remaining oil into the pan along with any debris from inside the housing area where the old filter was located. Clean out all debris inside this area before installing new filter, wipe clean with a rag.Â
6. Place your new filter inside its containment area on your engine and turn clockwise to tighten by hand as much as you can, and use your torque wrench for the last part of tightening it.Â
Open the hood and remove the engine oil cap. Place a drip pan underneath the vehicle, under the oil drain plug.
Locate the drain plug underneath the car, on the bottom of the oil pan. Position your drip pan underneath it.
Use a wrench to unscrew the drain plug from the oil pan. Let all of the oil in your Audi A3 drain into your drip pan, or until there is no longer any dripping.
Replace the O-ring if it looks damaged or worn out
Screw back on your drain plug. You may want to tighten it with a wrench for extra security, but do not over tighten it, as you can easily strip or break it off
Place a new oil filter onto your filter housing by hand. Screw it until you feel resistance, and then turn it another 1/2 turn with a socket wrench
Shake the ceramic coating additive LIQUI MOLY Cera Tec.
Open the engine cover and remove the oil filler cap. Then pour the additive into the engine oil tank along with your bottle of LIQUI MOLY Motor Oil Saver.
1. To refill you need to open the hood, raise it and secure with the bow.
2. Locate the engine oil filler cap under the hood of your car. Remove it by turning it counterclockwise. Put the cap in a clean area to prevent dirt from getting inside of it.
3. Open the oil filler cap/dipstick. Insert an oil funnel into the opening and pour in 4 liters of fresh engine oil. Wait a few minutes for any air bubbles to subside before checking the level on your dipstick again.
4. Clean off your dipstick and reinsert it into its proper place in your engine block (underneath the hood). Remove it again and ensure that your engine oil is at or above the line marked “Full.” If not, repeat steps 3-4 until you’ve added enough oil to reach that mark.
5. Replace your dipstick and tighten down your oil filler cap/dipstick by turning it clockwise until it’s as tight as you can get it (do not over-tighten). Then close your hood, start up your vehicle, let it run for a few minutes, and check underneath for leaks from around your filler cap or from any other areas of concern around or underneath your engine
Also, another option is to add the LIQUI MOLY Motor Oil Saver which helps to increase the overall performance of your engine and the oil effectiveness. Simply add this to your engine oil by pouring it after adding the initial 7 litres.
Depending on the result of the dipstick add in small increments of around 200ml until the engine oil is at the MAX level of the dipstick. Don’t overfill the engine oil! This can cause smoke and other negative side effects. Use a workshop paper towel to clean up any spills you may have made.
The Audi A3 2009 service indicator can be reset by following these steps:
1. Turn the key to position 2.
2. Press the button on the dashboard computer.
3. Switch until “Service” is displayed.
4. Press and hold the button for about 5 seconds until an icon appears in the display.
5. The display shows “Inspection OK” until the next service interval is reached, and then it will appear again.
