Symptoms and effects of unchanged oil
- Increased fuel consumption
- Loss of engine performance
- Increased parts replacement costs
The oil in your car is vital to the engine. It lubricates moving parts and prevents them from wearing out too soon. The oil also cools the engine, cleans harmful deposits from the cylinders and helps keep the engine parts clean. A well-maintained vehicle needs a new oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on how much you drive and the condition of your vehicle.
A bad oil change can cost you hundreds of dollars in repairs and lost time. You can do it yourself or take it to a professional mechanic either way, you need good information to get it right. Here are some tips for doing an accurate oil change yourself so that you get the best value for your time, effort and money.
Your engine requires a certain amount of lubrication to operate at its best. The oil does this job by creating a barrier between moving parts. The oil also gets hot, so it transfers the heat away from working surfaces and back into the engine where it can be cooled by the coolant. The oil also keeps moisture out of the moving parts because moisture can cause rust in otherwise perfectly good metal.
When you drain the old oil out of your engine and replace it with fresh new stuff, you get all these benefits. And when you don’t do this regularly, you compromise on performance and safety.

Still want to get the service and not DIY? Bring the products to your mechanic
When you’re in need of an oil change, it’s best to just buy a ready-to use kit from wherever and bring your car with its own parts. The results will be better than anything else because there are no surprises on the bill and leave you feeling confident on the quality of the products.
This service will cost you the mechanic labor fee (for 15min to max. 40min at a labour fee rate of 60-90EUR/hr).
Be prepared that mechanics might question you whether your car repair products are really suitable for the engine. Some dealerships often use phrases such as “we only can use our official products” in order to not lose their warranties, but you can confidently say yes! Otherwise MyCar.Repair would never sell them to me.
Steps Required To Complete An Audi Q7
Tools required for an oil change on an Audi Q7
- 14mm Socket
- 32mm Oil Filter Socket
- Torque Wrench
- Screw Driver
- Floor Jacks
- Jack Stands
Step 1 (optional): Clean the engine
Add LIQUI MOLY Oil Sludge Flush to the engine oil at running temperature before changing the oil.
Allow the engine to idle for approx. 10 minutes and then run it with full throttle for a further 2-3 minutes, before changing the oil and filter.
Always clean the engine with LIQUI MOLY Engine Flush after flushing out the engine to further enhance fresh oil penetration. Additionally, if your car is not serviced regularly, or it is an old car (more than 3 years) or you have used poor quality oils and filters.
Step 2: Change the oil filter
The first step to changing the oil filter is to find where it is located in your specific model of car. This is typically on the bottom of the engine block in front of the transmission or steering column. Refer to your owner’s manual if you’re not sure where yours is — some vehicles have them buried deep within the engine compartment, so don’t be afraid to take off any panels that are obstructing your view.
Once you’ve found the oil filter housing, loosen or remove any fastening bolts with a ratchet wrench or socket set. Some filters have small tanks attached that hold excess oil, so these can also be removed with a pair of pliers. Once everything has been loosened, unscrew the filter from its housing and dispose of it properly.
Pull the old filter off of the cap and clean the cap with some parts cleaner. Then, remove the o-rings from the cap and exchange them with new ones. It’s a good idea to lubricate the new o-ring using the fresh oil. Reinstall the oil filter by following the reverse steps of removing it.
Step 3: Drain the oil
Locate the oil filler cap, or dipstick. It’s usually located under the hood on the driver’s side of your vehicle. In some cars, you’ll have to look in a compartment underneath the engine to find it. Check your owner’s manual to make sure you’re looking in the right place. Remove any protective caps or shields from the area around where you found the dipstick. This will allow the oil to flow out more easily.
You’ll need to locate your engine’s oil drain plug. This is usually on the bottom of the engine, and it should be clearly labeled. If you can’t find it, consult your owner’s manual. It will also show you where the oil filter is located.
After locating the drain plug, remove it with the appropriate tool and place the plug safely aside in a secure place. The oil should start draining out immediately. If not, try pulling up on the wrench handle until you see a stream of liquid emerging from the plug hole.
When no more oil drips from the plug hole after about half a minute, and replace the plug.
Step 4 (optional): Fill the ceramic coating additive and Motor Oil Saver.
Shake the ceramic coating additive LIQUI MOLY Cera Tec.
Open the engine cover and remove the oil filler cap. Then pour the additive into the engine oil tank along with your bottle of LIQUI MOLY Motor Oil Saver.
Step 5: Refill the car with oil
Head into the engine bay and remove the oil filler cap. Then, pour in 9 litres of oil. It takes some time for the oil to move into the system before you can check the oil level. Wait 5 minutes and check the oil level on the dipstick. Also, another option is to add the LIQUI MOLY Oil Saver which helps to increase the overall performance of your engine and the oil effectiveness. Simply add this to your engine oil by pouring it after adding the initial 7 litres.
Depending on the result of the dipstick add in small increments of around 200ml until the engine oil is at the MAX level of the dipstick. Don’t overfill the engine oil! This can cause smoke and other negative side effects. Use a workshop paper towel to clean up any spills you may have made.
Step 6: Reset the service indicator
Select “Assist Plus” from the menu that appears on the center instrument cluster screen. Confirm that you’ve completed a full service and then hit “OK” twice. The service interval is now reset.
