Symptoms and effects of unchanged oil
The oil is the lifeblood of any engine. Without it, parts would wear rapidly and could cause damage to your engine’s inner components that can be costly later on.
The oil in an engine does more than just keep the moving parts clean – it also cushions them so they can run smoother. Without this cushion, metal would rub together and cause debris to fly around, which could eventually lead up to a lockup. Using synthetic oil can also help to increase the lifetime of your car’s engine as it has a higher ability to protect for longer and degrade slower.
Oil is an essential ingredient that keeps all the engine’s moving parts running smoothly. Without enough lubrication, friction increases between these surfaces, resulting in increased wear and tear, which can lead to breakage or even microscopic metal debris being embedded into other components, causing more damage.
Oil molecules inside the oil break down and some burn, reducing its viscosity. Synthetic oils with high-quality additive packages last significantly longer than conventional ones but still require scheduled changes every few thousand miles to keep them running smoothly. We should change the engine oil of the G 500 at least once every year or every 10,000 miles.
One of the most important things to remember about your car is that these cars are sitting in the garage during winter. And because they are not the youngest anymore, we recommend changing the engine oil every spring.

Oil changes can be very expensive if you go to a dealership or workshop. Independent workshops and car dealerships typically charge £22 for 1 liter of lower grade oil, which is triple the price at an auto parts store, totalling at £171. Oil filters and sealant O-rings and parts cleaner will cost usually another £25-50. They also never wash the engine with Engine Flush causing a faster oil deterioration and shorter oil change interval and they don’t add a ceramic engine coating additive. There are many factors that affect the labor cost for performing an oil change. The common hour mechanic service charges range between £50-80, with a basic job taking less than 15 minutes on average and over 30 when including engine cleaning time, too. They often add disposal costs and engine resetting fees for another £15-25.
With diagnostics and other unforeseen costs often added, the surprise when settling the bill between £250-500 can be big.
On top of the extra charge, you’ll have to wait until they can get to your car.
When you’re in need of an oil change, it’s best to just buy a ready-to use kit from wherever and bring your car with its own parts. The results will be better than anything else because there are no surprises on the bill and leave you feeling confident on the quality of the products.
This service will cost you the mechanic labor fee (for 15min to max. 40min at a labour fee rate of £30-50/hr).
Be prepared that mechanics might question you whether your car repair products are really suitable for the engine. Some dealerships often use phrases such as “we only can use our official products” in order to not lose their warranties, but you can confidently say yes! Otherwise MyCarRepair would never sell them to me.
Tools required for an oil change on a Mercedes G 500 M113.962
Open the engine cover and oil cap, pour one bottle of LIQUI MOLY Oil Sludge Flush into it. Close back up tightly with a twist to release any excess air before starting the car and letting it idle for 10-15 minutes – just make sure you don’t drive the car. Turn off when ready and proceed to the next step.
The oil filter housing sits in the frot on the right-hand side. Use the 74mm oil filter remover to remove the cap and filter.
Before you can replace the old filter, pull it off of its cap and clean both pieces with some parts cleaner. Make sure to remove any o-rings from each part so they don’t get stuck when reattaching them later on.
Dress the new o-rings with some new oil and install them onto the oil filter cap. Slide the new filter onto the cap and then reinstall it into the engine.
Start to thread the cap into the housing by hand to prevent any cross-threading. Then, use the 27mm socket to torque the cap to 24Nm.
Open the oil cap to ensure that there is no vacuum during draining. Place jack stands under your vehicle and secure with a lift or jacking mechanism.
Place a drain pan under the drain plug. Position it farther toward the driver’s side as the oil will shoot out in that direction. Use a 14mm socket to remove the plug.
Clean off the drain plug and then use a copper crush washer to ensure that it fits into your car’s threads correctly. Thread it in by hand first, before tightening with a 14 mm socket which should be torque at 30Nm.
Shake the ceramic coating additive LIQUI MOLY CERATEC.
Open the engine cover and remove the oil filler cap. Then pour the additive into the engine oil tank along with your bottle of LIQUI MOLY Motor Oil Saver.
Head into the engine bay and remove the oil filler cap. Then, pour in 7,5 litres of oil. It takes some time for the oil to move into the system before you can check the oil level. Wait 5 minutes and check the oil level on the dip stick. In the case you did Step 4 and added the ceramic coating a additive, please keep in mind that the 600ml can be counted and deducted from the 8L engine oil volume.
Depending on the result of the dipstick, add in small increments of around 200ml until the engine oil is at the MAX level of the dipstick. Avoid overfilling the engine oil as this causes smoke and other negative side effects. Use a workshop paper towel to clean any oil you may have spilt.
Select “Assist Plus” from the menu that appears on the center instrument cluster screen. Confirm that you’ve completed a full service and then hit “OK” twice. The service interval is now reset.
